Rockstar’s western epic has sold “nearly” 64 million copies through March 2024, according to publisher Take-Two’s latest financial report. The series has collectively sold over 89 million units, putting the original Red Dead’s sales total around 25 million.
Following closely is Roblox, a game creation platform that has captured the imagination of millions, providing an immersive space for players to design their own games. Fortnite, with its dynamic battle royale mode, has achieved iconic status with an estimated 350 million registered players. Grand Theft Auto V/Online, the brainchild of Rockstar Games, holds the title of the sixth-best-selling game of all time, boasting over 150 million units sold and maintaining its popularity since its release in 2013. Overwatch 2, the much-anticipated sequel, is poised to join the ranks of these giants, building upon the success of its predecessor.
Among Us shot to popularity in 2020 when a host of Twitch and YouTube personalities began streaming their sessions. Its stylized avatars have also gone on to become viral memes on social media. In November 2022, they launched a standalone VR version of Among Us for the Meta Quest 2 on PC, with plans for a PlayStation VR2-compatible release soon.
The plot revolves around terrorists and counter-terrorist attacks. Where players must defuse and plant bombs, complete missions, secure locations, kill terrorists and protect the hostages depicted on the map. It’s a shooter game with multiple players.
With each new game, Minecraft has grown in popularity. The game has several modes in which users must survive and build their campus while having complete control over animal buildings, people, and food.
It’s also important to talk about the rise of independent game creation platform Roblox, which is empowering individuals to design and program their very own computer games. Some of these have gone on to become some of the most popular games for casual gamers.
The world’s hardest game
Ignore the mesmerizing visuals harkening back to classic cartoons, the cutesy protagonist, and awesome soundtrack; “Cuphead” is a soul-crushing run and gun platformer that also happens to be one big boss rush. Even though some opponents are slightly more manageable than others, every boss goes through numerous phases, with each one being exponentially harder than the last. Failure is to be expected, as memorizing a boss’ often complicated attack patterns is vital to standing any hope of victory. “Cuphead” will have each and every player begging to make a deal with the devil to finally get past King Dice or Dr. Kahl’s Robot.
Some may be surprised to see Sekiro not included in games listed in the number three spot. The truth is, while Sekiro is also a FromSoftware release, it’s not a ‘Souls’ game. While it shares many similarities with Dark Souls, Elden Ring, etc, this is a hard-as-nails single-player-only adventure. In a Souls game, you can summon allies to help you take down a difficult boss, essentially letting them share the load. However, in Sekiro, players either “git good” or they die trying – many times.
We’ll never get over how hard this game is! “Getting Over It” is simple, if bizarre, in concept – you’re a dude stuck in a pot trying to get up a mountain using a sledgehammer. But this is made monumentally difficult by the intentionally unintuitive controls and the fact that if you fall down you have to start all over again – no checkpoints! The sheer infuriating rage this game induces is remarkable, as hours of progress can be undone in an instant! And Bennett Foddy’s running philosophical commentary certainly doesn’t help, either. Honestly, it’s probably more fun watching people play “Getting Over It” than it is to play it – if only for the schadenfreude!
The first thing that happened when I got in to the game, I LITERALLY SPAWNED OUTSIDE THE MAP! And no I’m not gonna complain and make a whole ramp about how hard it is because I believe people already did that, and it literally says “World’s Hardest Game” but one thing I can complain about is the ads. There shouldn’t be ads one a game like this otherwise people will either delete it immediately which is what I did or waste days instead of hours. And the main thing I am mad about is the AWFUL Controls, on Mobile I need to drag it across my screen with very low sensitivity… Like bruh. -_-
