Game flags of the world
Given a reprieve, Bobby Ojeda batted for himself (he grounded out) and threw another inning. Going six innings was quite a feat for Ojeda since Boston had runners on base in all but one inning yet left eight on base against Ojeda. https://realitypms.com/ The Red Sox took advantage of shoddy defense by the Mets in the seventh against Roger McDowell, with Knight’s errant throw pulling Keith Hernandez off first to put runners on the corners. Boston, without a steal attempt in the Series, tried the hit-and-run several times and usually sent runners on 3-and-2, as the Red Sox did with Jim Rice in the seventh. His jump enabled him to beat a throw to second on what looked like a double-play ball. The Mets got Dwight Evans at first, but because Rice was safe at second, Marty Barrett crossed home plate for a 3-2 Boston lead. When Rich Gedman followed with a single it looked as if Boston would double its lead, but for the second time in the Series, Mookie Wilson, who had a notoriously weak arm and had undergone shoulder surgery the previous winter, threw to Gary Carter on the fly and the catcher rode Rice away from the plate for the third out. Rice’s speed, or lack thereof, had kept him from scoring on Evans’s rattling ball in the gap in the first inning, and it haunted Boston again, but not nearly as much as much as a decision by John McNamara that would stay with Red Sox fans for years to come.
While not falling under the curse in the traditional sense, Buckner’s infamous gaffe in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series can also be interpreted to fit the Ex-Cubs Factor and/or the Curse of the Billy Goat. Upon video analysis, Buckner, a former Chicago Cub for seven seasons, was shown to be wearing a Cubs batting glove under his mitt when he made the error.
“The denouement of this stirring October drama is scheduled tonight at Shea Stadium, but the forecast is for rain, possibly lasting two days. But 48 hours of steady showers would likely not produce more moisture than the tears shed by the Red Sox’s long-suffering fans last night.”
World series game 2 times
The Dodgers are marking their fourth World Series appearance since 2017 and are looking for their first championship in a full season since 1988 (Los Angeles won it all in the pandemic-shortened, 60-game 2020 season). Dave Roberts’ club booked its latest trip to the World Series by defeating the No. 4 San Diego Padres in five games and winning the NL pennant over the No. 6 New York Mets in six games.
Here’s what the Yankees are trying to avoid in Game 2 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium: Teams that have lost the first two games on the road in all 2-3-2 series are 11-45 in those series. In the World Series, specifically, they are 7-27.
But as the Series shifts to the Bronx for Game 3 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium, with the Dodgers up 2-0 in the best-of-seven, the big stars are faced with big questions — about Ohtani’s availability and Judge’s invisibility.
Walker Buehler delivered. The curveball dropped. Alex Verdugo swung over it. Will Smith smothered the ball in the dirt and applied the tag to make it official. Then, the celebration was on in the Bronx.
Only one player has ever been caught stealing to end the Fall Classic, and he was not exactly known for his baserunning prowess. That was none other than the Sultan of Swat, Babe Ruth, who was thrown out trying to swipe second base with the Yankees trailing the Cardinals by one run in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 7 in 1926.
When is the next world series game
American rapper and Los Angeles native Ice Cube performed “Bow Down” and “It Was a Good Day” before Game 2. Pearle Peterson, a 19-year-old, sang the national anthem, accompanied by organist Dieter Ruehle. Game 2 featured starting pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers and Carlos Rodón for the Yankees. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Who is hot and who is not?Dodgers: Freeman continues his dominant World Series run, hitting a homer in all four games against the Yankees. The star first baseman has now hit a homer in six consecutive games in the Fall Classic, a new record. He also has 10 RBIs in the four games. If the Dodgers wrap it up, Freeman will likely be taking home his first World Series MVP trophy.
The Yankees are trying to become just the second team ever — joining the 2004 Red Sox in the ALCS — to win a postseason series after trailing 3-0. They’ve already become the first World Series team in 10 tries to fall behind 3-0 and force a Game 5 (the most recent had been the 1970 Reds).
A Yankees team has not been swept in the World Series since 1976, against the Big Red Machine. But this World Series could be over in a New York minute if the Yankees don’t come to life Tuesday night.
The Yankees are the 41st team to fall behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven. The 2004 Red Sox (against the Yanks) are the only ones to come out on top. To reach this point in a World Series and even force a Game 5 is difficult. It hasn’t happened since 1970, when the Reds lost the first three, won Game 4 and then lost Game 5.
If he’s anything like the Gerrit Cole we saw in Game 1, when he held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over six-plus innings at Dodger Stadium, then the Yankees pulse that was revived in Game 4 could quicken in Game 5.
